U.S. Appoints Ambassador to ASEAN

JAKARTA - The existence of the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN), the more kept growing. United States (U.S.) today sent David Carden who was appointed as the first U.S. Ambassador for ASEAN.

Carden admitted he always followed the development of ASEAN. He was also impressed with the ideas that have been generated by this regional organization.

"ASEAN is an organization that has a purpose and a very big idea. Now those ideas are widespread," Carden said while giving a letter of credentials to the Secretary General of ASEAN at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Tuesday (26/04/2011).

Carden also looked at the ASEAN Charter is important. "The ASEAN Charter is something that many people expect to be met within the next few years. I think there is something from my country (USA) and myself that can be shared, for ASEAN to meet the goal,"said Carden.

The role of Indonesia as Chairman of ASEAN this year is also considered as something more for him, especially when he was appointed as U.S. ambassador to ASEAN first.

"Very pleasant appointed as Ambassador to ASEAN when Indonesia became chairman. Asean will continue to experience a change (for under the leadership of Indonesia) and the current change is already running. I hope that for ASEAN to enhance its relationship with America," said Carden.
